Teacher + Student

I developed a syllabus for a course that allowed social work students to create and facilitate writing groups in our local jail. Lori Power, who co-taught the course with me after I graduated from the University of New England School of Social Work, has invited me to speak to her other classes about the work we did together. A recent visit to her Social Work and the Arts course reminded me of the importance of process over product, that “being told is the opposite of finding out,” community work is messy, and the energy it takes to sustain is different from the energy it takes to create.
